Here’s an etude to practice playing with a “dead thumb” or “monotonic bass” line. Keep the thumb independent from the fingers, holding down a steady four to the bar for the most part. Apply muting to the bass to get a more percussive sound from the part, and to also differentiate between the bass and melody parts.
