At one stage I was listening to a lot of Jerry Reed, a Clive Carroll piece I cannot remember the title of, and some footage of Doyle Dykes playing some blues in a bar somewhere…so I tried to take the general feel and come up with my own tune. There is also a B section and a composed solo over a 12-bar sequence (with a few mire chords to spice up the progression), but I can’t remember them now, though I did notate them at the time.
Reimagining others ideas is a great way to explained on your own musical vocabulary and compose your own songs. None of us learn to play in a vacuum
The recent Tommy Emmanuel interview by Rick Beato sees Tommy talking about composing a piece inspired by elements of Nirvana, Taylor Swift, and Billy Joel.
Great stuff.
